BRIEF HISTORY OF UNIT


SECURITY BRANCH-


              
Security Branch of Inteligence Department came into being in 1958. It was initially known as a Section of Intelligence Headquarters but later it was called the Security Branch. To start with, this section used to handle only matters relating to protection and security arrangements of VVIPs. Later on, all cognate work relating to coordinating work relative to security of industrial installations, preparation of Internal Security Schemes, preparation of Security Suspect lists and matters concerning hijacking of planes, postal bombs etc. were also brought under its purview.
It also caters to action regarding personal security requirements of visiting VIPs like Ministers of Central Government, Governors and Chief Ministers of States.


THE TRAINING SCHOOL, SECURITY BRANCH, INTELLIGENCE DEPARTMENT, U.P., LUCKNOW


       To train the staff for their jobs a Training School within the CID was established in tents at Sikandar Bagh, Lucknow before Independence. In 1958 the Intelligence department was reorganized when it was separated fom the CID and this training school was handed over to the Intelligence Department and shifted to rented building at Om Niwas, 413, Dr Baijnath Road, New Hyderabad, Lucknow.


         This training school was upgraded according to needs, and to increase the efficiency and professionalism of Special Branch and Local Intelligence Units working. Broadly, the working of Special Branch and LIU was demarcated in the reorganisation scheme. Training for both branches is being imparted in training school for the police personnel of all branches like civil police, Intelligence and P.A.C. A new Building for the Training School was constructed in 1982.


          At present the Training School Conducts about 40 courses regularly per year. Approximately 40 trainees are accommodated in every course.
The training school also has a technical wing and a photography wing. The photography wing makes videography coverage of all VVIP visits and various types of situations and point out the lapses which comes to notice during VVIP visits. All security equipments like DFMD, HHMD, NIGHTVISION, DSMD, several types of explosive detectors have been being supplied to the all districts of Uttar Pradesh according the demands during various occasions. This Training School has a well-stocked library with books and audio visual aids on security and Intelligence related topics. The Training School has also underground firing range for firing practice. A new Electronic Training Simulator has been established for practice of firing for Security Personal. Different types of targets are being established for real firing experience.
